During the month of September Moon Library is hosting an exhibit that combines writing and art. The Syracuse Poster Project series has seventeen posters on exhibit outside Room 19 on the lower level of Moon Library. The Syracuse Poster Project combines local community member haiku with artwork by Syracuse University students who interpret the haiku in visual form. The Syracuse Poster Project has been very successful and is now its 13th year. During the month of September Moon Library has an exhibit on SUNY ESF Faculty member and Dean – Joseph Illick. Through a recent donation from Henry Breed (Dean Illick’s grandson) we have on display Dean Illick’s regalia and graduation robes. Our display also outlines the life and works of Dean Illick and highlights milestones reached during his tenure at ESF and life accomplishments. We also have a display on the events surrounding the Inauguration of Dr. Quentin Wheeler as the fourth President of SUNY ESF.
At the time Dr. Illick was Dean, ESF was a State College of/at Syracuse University, so his ceremonial robes reflect the colors of SU. The display at Moon Library explains the colors associated with Doctoral and Masters hoods, and will be useful in identifying the regalia that will be worn by members of the faculty during the Inauguration Ceremony of President Quentin Wheeler on September 12. A succinct history of the Academic Costume Code can be found on the web pages of the American Council on Education.
